The people behind Crafting Crime
In composing the Crafting Crime course, Martin Edwards has drawn on more than 30 years’ experience as a crime novelist. He is also an internationally acclaimed editor of crime anthologies for the British Library and other publishers. His work has been translated into languages ranging from German and Italian to Chinese and Japanese. As Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine put it, he has ‘achieved distinction in every field of crime writing’. He was awarded the Diamond Dagger, the UK’s foremost recognition of lifetime excellence in crime writing, in 2020.
Martin is hugely respected by his peers and liked and admired above all for the support and encouragement he gives other writers, including beginner writers and those at the start of their careers. He was a popular Chair of the Crime Writers’ Association, and continues to serve as President of the Detection Club, following in the footsteps of G.K. Chesterton, Dorothy L. Sayers and his inspiration, Agatha Christie.
Fiction Feedback editorial consultancy was established by editor Dea Parkin in 2008. The consultancy has since seen countless writers go on to publication, whether through a traditional contract or independent publishing. Not all Fiction Feedback clients are new writers; published novelists, even award-winning novelists, seek their editing help. Currently, eight highly professional editors work regularly for the consultancy. Crime fiction has always been Fiction Feedback’s speciality and in 2016 Dea became Secretary of the Crime Writers’ Association. The role evolved to become General Coordinator and she served until the end of 2023, while continuing her role as Competitions Coordinator. She remains involved with the CWA and is Co-host of its Northern Symposium.
Fiction Feedback currently sponsors the Emerging Author (formerly Debut) Dagger, the CWA’s renowned competition for unpublished writers, and Dea is a judge for the Historical Dagger. A former Chair and competition judge for various writing circles in Lancashire, she is an award-winning member of Lancashire Authors’ Association and gives talks and workshops on how to get published and the craft of writing.
The assignments confidentially submitted as part of the Crafting Crime Mentored Course will be carefully read and assessed by Dea or her crime-specialist editors at Fiction Feedback. Your writing is in very safe hands.
